When you work with Medicus Healthcare Solutions, we dedicate a physician advisor to help you with your search. This individual partners with you to find you the right opportunity for both you and our client. Your Medicus physician advisor also becomes your resource to assist with market compensation data, interview scheduling, coordination and preparation, and contract negotiation.
Although each client is different, most offer a sign-on bonus and relocation compensation. The average sign-on bonus is $10,000 and relocation stipend is $5,000.

Your Medicus physician advisor will provide the details regarding your assignment. Orientations are unique to each client setting and vary from web-based guidance, facility layout and access procedures, clinical processes, EMR systems, and safety protocols.
Licensing and credentialing timelines vary by state and facility. The process can take as little as 6 weeks or as much as 6 months. Your physician advisor will guide you through the process and provide an estimate of what to expect based on your geographic preference and the facilities with which you are interviewing.

Working locum tenens offers the freedom and flexibility to control your own schedule. It also gives you and your future employer the opportunity to see if there is a mutual fit; you aren’t locked into a multi-year contract after a single interview. Finally, locums work provides you with more time to focus on your patients, since you aren’t bogged down with hospital politics.
As a locum physician you are an independent contractor, so you are not eligible for benefits through the locum company for which you work. However, Medicus has a bonus program for full-time locum physicians that can help cover the cost of obtaining benefits independently.
No, not always. Many of our clients do not make it a requirement for work, but it depends on the privileging requirements of the facility.
Once you’re presented to the client and they decide to move forward, the process of licensing and credentialing begins. This timeframe is determined by several factors, including your prior work history, state licenses, references, and the client’s credentialing process. Your Medicus physician advisor will keep you apprised of the details regarding your timeline.
Most locum assignments are about three months long. However, depending on the practice, location, and client needs, they may run longer or shorter. Some clients are just looking for weekend call coverage and others are trying to find coverage for multiple years.
Orientations vary based on each client. Your Physician Advisor will be able to provide details of your orientation program prior to starting your assignment.
Yes, a locum assignment can be extended, and you have the option of adjusting your contract. If the hospital is a good fit, a locum assignment could also turn into a full-time, permanent role.
In most cases, yes. You also may need to receive prior approval from your program director. Some fellowship programs restrict fellows from working outside of the fellowship, but that’s usually outlined in your agreement.
